RTM & RTM Lite
Conventional Resin Transfer Molding
Conventional Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) produces composite parts using matched polyester molds or various other casted materials. Resin is injected into the closed mold cavities under pressure. Resin flows through the fiberglass reinforcement, sometimes with the assistance of vacuum. The process is ideal for higher volume production rates and/or tighter tolerance parts.
RTM Lite produces composite parts also using matched polyester molds. Resin is drawn through fiberglass reinforcement in the closed mold cavities through the use of vacuum. This process is also ideal for higher volume production rates and/or tighter tolerances.
Advantages of RTM and RTM Lite
- Provides excellent thickness uniformity
- Outstanding “B” side cosmetics
- Increased mold productivity
- Environmentally friendly
- Eliminates hand roll-out process
Goldshield produces both Conventional RTM and RTM Lite. Depending on the geometry or complexity of the part, volume, and other criteria preformed fiberglass reinforcements might be used. The tooling costs for both RTM processes is higher than open mold, but can be offset by higher molding capacity.
